Board-and-Bat siding was very popular on American houses in the mid-19th century, and was designed to compliment the house's frame within; this application adds texture to architecture of the structure, and when used with other exterior coverage application can create variety and symmetry in the structure.
Board-and-Bat is installed by placing wider boards on the wall first, with a gap between the boards; narrower bats are then secured over the gaps, overlapping the wider boards by about 1".
