Wood Hardness

HistoricWoods by LunarCanyon uses the Janka Hardness Scale to rate the hardness of the woods we offer. The concept is that the harder the wood the more durable the floor, with the converse of a softer floor will accumulate more character as it is used. Simply put the Janka Hardness Scale measures how many pounds of force it takes to push a 1/2" steel ball half way into the face of the wood. The more pounds of force required, the higher the rating and the harder the wood. Below are listed some of the woods we offer with their corresponding Janka Hardness rating.
