chinking fills the area between two siding boards; the boards are usually very thick, the edges can be very uneven and the width of the boards can vary from one end to the other; boards are installed with gaps between them and the chinking materal fills in the area between the boards usually recessed back a bit to show off the thickness of the siding product; the look is reminiscent of the log cabins and lodges of the American Frontier; when combined with other architectural elements chinked siding tends to create a rustic and rich look
